Grey Eyes

Grey eyes

Grey Eyes is a solo acoustic act with Josh Garrett of Kansas City Missouri hitting the stage with vocals and acoustic guitar. His 6 song ep “Cascade” was released on June 2, 2018. Cascade was was produced by Will Heidebrecht in McPherson, Ks. Grey Eyes’ songs are not overly technical or complex, it is this simplicity that allows the listener to hone in on the lyrical content. Grey eyes tackles the tough aspects of life that we all must face. Depression, loneliness, hopelessness, and the pain of losing a loved one. At times these lyrics are moving and utterly heart breaking. And at other times can seem a bit cliche.

While Josh Garrett’s vocal abilities still seem to be raw and at times untrained, this is not an entirely negative characteristic. It harkens to the early days of the “emo” scene so many of us grew up with and cherish. If given the opportunity to see Grey Eyes live I advise you jump on it. His live vocals have a strong emotionality to it that the recorded songs simply don’t capture.

I was able to attend a live show featuring Grey Eyes at The Rino in North Kansas City on March 8th, 2018. At times it appeared Josh was having a hard time playing and singing at the same time but it should be noted that I personally attribute the small mistakes he did make to two rather obnoxious attendees who were so completely intoxicated that they did not even notice Josh calling them out over the PA system for being so rude during an acoustic set.
